The literacy and numeracy catch-up premium gives schools additional funding to support year 7 pupils who did not achieve the expected standard in reading or maths at the end of Key Stage 2.

How do we spend the Catch Up Premium?

We draw on research evidence (such as the Sutton Trust toolkit and the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) and evidence from our own experience to allocate funding to strategies that are most likely to maximise achievement and ensure best possible progress for our pupils.

Strategies employed:

  • Baseline assessments in Year 7 to gain an accurate benchmark of literacy and numeracy capabilities
  • Staffing support to enable small group teaching in literacy and numeracy
  • One-to-one interventions
  • Project X reading intervention
  • Numicon
  • Sumdog
  • Lexia Core 5

Impact:

In English, 80% of pupils made expected progress with 38% making above expected progress.

In Maths, 78% of pupils made expected progress with 18% making above expected progress.
